Manchester United manager gives verdict on Manchester City power

Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester United will be prepared for the Manchester City challengeManchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has described Premiership title contenders and next door neighbours Manchester City as having enough financial power to attract the worlds top players and that they will now be amongst the top sides in the country for some time to come.

The United manager has always been the one to beat where winning the title is concerned with numerous stints at the very top by both Arsenal and Chelsea during his time. Last season marked his 19th and record breaking title to pip Liverpool as the most successful club in England.

However the United manager does see Manchester City are a real threat and picks out both Sergio Aguerro and David Silva as the main threats within the team.

“They are a good team and they were always going to be there or thereabouts. Sergio Aguero was bound to do well, coming into the Premier League, because he is such a goal threat around the penalty box. David Silva is also a very good player.”

Ferguson though believes that Manchester United will be ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead and adds that the derby between the two sides is now more important than it has been in the past.

“We just have to make sure we are ready for City when we meet them. All derbies are big now, that is the nature of the landscape, the impetus City now have – they have a huge squad of players and the financial power to attract some of the best footballers in the world, actually changes the focus of the derby these days.”

“The talking point isn’t so much the actual game but the dynamics of how Manchester City have changed football and what we do to compete with that.”

The first Manchester derby is to be held this month on the 23rd October at Old Trafford with both sides having Champions League group matches before hand.
