After a summer switch was ruled out due to the player suffering a serious August injury, Mancheste United could be ready to renew their interest in Celtic defender, Emilio Izzaguirre, with a view to a January move.
The left-back was reportedly a target of Sir Alex Ferguson’s following continued reports that the Scot was hoping to strengthen his full-back options and provide competition for Patrice Evra.
The bid was scrapped however when Izzaguirre was added to the injury table after picking up a long-term calf injury in an early season fixture.
The Honduran international recently made his return to the Celtic squad and could bring the Red Devils’ interest back to the table if he is able to replicate his form of last season.
Izzaguirre was brought to Celtic Park in the summer of 2010 and quickly became a vital part of the Bhoys’ starting XI, picking up over 40 appearances for the side in his first season in the SPL.
What’s more, the 25 year-old deservedly picked up a host of trophies at the end of the season, including SPL Player of the Year, Celtic Players’ Player of the Year and Scottish Football Writers Player of the Year.
If a move were to go ahead, it’s tought that United would need to shell out around £7m for Izzaguirre’s services who – despite his injury – is a valued commodity for Neil Lennon.
