Manchester United have learned that captain and prized defender, Nemanja Vidic, will be sidelined for around five weeks.
However, the club also received the goo news that Rio Ferdinand’s injury is not as bad as first expected, and could even feature in Monday’s clash against Tottenham.
Manager, Sir Alex Feguson, commented: “Last week we thought Rio’s hamstring would have him out for six weeks and with Vidic, we thought it was just a nerve problem. That’s reversed itself.”
The Scot added: “Vidic has got a calf muscle injury, which means he’ll be four to five weeks. It’s longer than we thought. Meanwhile, Rio’s injury isn’t as bad as we thought and he could be ready for our game against Arsenal.”
Both injuries were suffered in United’s 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion last weekend.
