Manchester United renew interest in Dutch talisman

Reports have suggested that Manchester United could be ready to submit a revised bid for Inter playmaker, Wesley Sneijder, after United Chief Executive, David Gill, claimed that Alex Ferguson wanted to sign one more ‘world-class’ player in this transfer window.

United had trouble reaching an agreement for Sneijder earlier this month, with the player’s wages proving the biggest hurdle, along with his initial transfer fee.

Gill is adamant to sign quality assets in an effort to retain their Premier League title, noting: “There’s no point, if you can’t get the players you want, in buying someone for the sake of buying someone. But we are looking at one more player to bring in.”

Sir Alex Ferguson will be desperate to fill a hole in the centre of the midfield after the retirement of Paul Scholes. Some squad players such as Anderson, Michael Carrick and Darron Gibson have drawn speculation that they won’t be able to fill Scholes’ boots.

Sneijder is earning £190,000-a-week at Inter and it is understood that the 27 year-old would be open to a move to United. However, Ferguson is aware of the midfielder’s low resale value given his age.
