Manchester United reviving interest in Spanish sensation

After two seasons of speculation linking the Spaniard with a move away from Valencia, Jordi Alba is to become the target of a renewed Manchester United bid this summer.

However, the La Liga side aren’t keen to let their attacker go and have reportedly entered into negotiations regarding a new contract.

If Alba were to sign an extension at the Estadio Mestalla, it would certainly make his chances of a Premier League switch all the less likely, although not impossible.

United are understood to be in the market for a left-sided defender with Patrice Evra being continually linked with an exit from the English giants.

Alba started his career at left-back and although he is still capable of operating out of the position, his progress has seen him move further up the pitch and now functions more often as a left-sided midfielder.

Barcelona are also said to be in the running to make a move for the 22 year-old and provide tough competition for the Red Devils.

Alba has made 29 appearances for Valencia this season and has been especially impressive in Los Che’s Champions League campaign.

The Spaniard has also made two appearances for the Spanish national side, ascending through several tiers of the nation’s youth setup and has been tipped to be the long-term solution to the defensive void left by the aging Joan Capdevila

If United were to complete a move for the winger, it would be expected to cost the Premier League side around £18m.
