Manchester United stopper confesses to fear of club future

Manchester United defender, Jonny Evans, has admitted that he was fearful of his future at Old Trafford after a string of bad performances saw him lose his squad position last season.

The Northern Irishman has stumbled across the chance to prove himself early this season with injuries to starters Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, and says that he has something to prove this term.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the centre-back stated: “If I had another season like that I am sure the manager wouldn’t want me around.”

He went on to say: “I wasn’t playing consistently to a good enough standard. I went away and thought maybe I have another year.”

Regarding the departures of John O’Shea and Wes Brown to Sunderland, the 23 year-old said: “It did make me think there was room but no matter who the manager gets rid of, or signs, there are so many players who can step into so many different positions it is crazy.”
