Manchester United are getting ready to swoop for Poland international and Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski in the summer.
Lewandowski’s agent has confirmed that United have been in contact regarding the forward.
Sir Alex Ferguson is rumoured to be keen to sign him in time for the start of next season’s Premier League campaign.
The striker broke away from his stagnant position on the bench in the 2010-11 campaign to have a permanent position in Borussia Dortmund’s Championship and German Cup winning season.
Lewandowski has hit the back of the net 30 times in his last 47 games for Dortmund this season.
Dortmund have offered to extend the striker’s contract, but agent Maik Barthel has admitted his client is looking to move elsewhere, Barthel told Bild: “The offer from Dortmund is not enough.
“I can confirm interest from Manchester United in Robert,”
Sir Alex Ferguson was present in last Saturday’s huge 5-2 Dortmund win over Bayern Munich in Germany’s Cup final. Ferguson was originally in attendance to watch Shinji Kagawa, who is being hugely linked with United, but the veteran manager is said to have been impressed with Lewandowski.
United have been criticized in recent seasons for fielding an ever ageing squad, the signing of Lewandowski and Kagawa could potentially silence such criticisms and help the Red Devils push for next season’s Premier League title.
