Manchester United v Bayer Leverkusen odds: United keen for winning start to Champions League campaign

Latest Man Utd v Bayer Leverkusen odds as Manchester United are priced as 8/11 favourites  in the betting with Paddy Power to win their opening group game against what could be a tricky encounter at Old Trafford.

It’s that time of year again and Manchester United will be hoping they can take on and defeat Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in their Group A clash.

For United, it will be the first time since they faced Leverkusen since 2002 where Alex Fergusons’s side was victorious in both clashes against the Germans.

But after a decade since their last meeting, it has been all change at Old Trafford with David Moyes preparing for his first full Champions League campaign in his managerial career.

United will be boosted by having an almost full squad to pick from after not picking up many casualties during Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace with only Nani being unavailable for selection.

The Portuguese midfielder is still carrying a suspension after getting sent off in United’s second round loss to Real Madrid last season.

One good piece of news for United fans is the resurgence of Wayne Rooney who ended his scoring drought with a stunning free-kick in the Premier League last Saturday and Moyes will be hoping that he and Robin Van Persie will be able to be on top form on Tuesday evening.

For Leverkusen, they will be looking to make an immediate impact in Group A by taking points off the group favourites.

Bayer are in a similar position to United as they also have a debutant manager in charge of the club although Sami Hyypia is certainly no stranger to the competition having won it with Liverpool during his playing career.

Leverkusen has had a fine start to the season winning 4 out of their first 5 games having already beaten the likes of Freiburg and Stuttgart so far.

This has been helped by the lighting form of their upfront duo of Sidney Sam and Stefan Kiessling who have scored 9 goals between them in the Bundesliga so far.

But a loss to fellow Champions league side Schalke on Saturday would have derailed their momentum considerably and this will certainly be something that might hinder them on Tuesday evening.

Manchester United will be clear favourites for the match but they will still need to watch out for Leverkusen’s strong attack if they want to ensure that they get all three points.
