Lewis Hamilton will battle this weekend at the Indian Grand Prix to attempt to put his “tough times” in the past as he comes to terms with his recent break-up.
Despite claiming his first pole position for 27 races and finishing second at the Korean Grand Prix nearly a fortnight ago, Hamilton cut a miserable figure throughout.
Even though he insisted he was “happy”, it was then later revealed that he had split from former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger after four years together.
Asked whether he and Scherzinger parted on good terms, speaking for the first time on the matter, Hamilton said: “Yeah, we’re friends at least and we can move forward.”
The Indian Grand Prix now offers the 2008 world champion an opportunity to forget his behind-the-scenes woes.
“It’s never easy going through tough times,” added Hamilton.
“It’s these kind of times that are sent to try you, and it’s about how you pull through them. I’ve my family who are helping, so I feel pretty good.”
Hamilton has admitted that he turned to his family after the race in Korea, and believes that spending time with his brother Nic, dad Anthony and step-mum Linda, helped him a lot.
“That helped, definitely,” added Hamilton.
“And I’ve many more days coming up with my family over Christmas and all that, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
There is now three remaining grands prix for Lewis to face, which afterwards he can then close the curtains on a season he is more likely to want to forget.
“I feel positive coming into the weekend knowing we were very competitive in the last race,” said Hamilton.
“I’m just trying to look forward now, and we’ve three good races coming up, so I’m just trying to keep my mind focused on business.”
