Spurs midfielder and Chelsea target, Luka Modric, has been taken out of the squad to face Manchester United tonight, with manager, Harry Redknapp, claiming the Croatian isn’t mentally prepared for the game.
The game is Tottenham’s opening fixture after last week’s scheduled opener against Everton was called off due to the rioting across London.
Redknapp noted: “He won’t be with us for the United game. He has got a bit of an injury but, to be honest, it is more that his head is not quite right.”
Chelsea are ready to treble the playmaker’s wages if he makes the move to Stamford Bridge, a factor Spurs know will be playing on his mind.
The upper echelon of the White Hart Lane boardroom staff are adamant to keep Modric with chairman, Daniel Levy, stating he is ‘not for sale’ on several occasions.
However, with Chelsea’s latest bid understood to be worth £30m with Yossi Benayoun a part of the deal, Redknapp is apparently opening up to the idea of life without Modric.
