Real Madrid assistant coach Aitor Karanka has hinted that the Spanish champions will replace out-of-favour Kaka with Luka Modric this summer.
The Croatian international has been heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu during the close season after admitting that he wants to leave the North London club.
Modric returned to training with Spurs this week after he was fined for deliberately missing sessions in an apparent attempt to force through a move.
Chairman Daniel Levy is prepared to let him leave White Hart Lane but is believed to be holding out for a £40million fee which could deter the La Liga giants from making a bid with Manchester United and Chelsea still monitoring developments.
However Karanka has suggested that Madrid is the 26-year-0ld’s likely destination and will fill the void left by Brazil international Kaka who looks set to leave the club.
“Which club would not want a player like him?,” he said about Modric.
“He is an outstanding footballer and had a great tournament (Euro 2012). It is clear that he would fit in Madrid.”
Big-spending PSG are being touted to make a play for 30-year-old Kaka following a lacklustre three-year spell in Spain whilst former club AC Milan are also rumoured to be interested.
Karanka told AS: “We decided he would stay in Madrid. Kaka and the club are working to find a good solution for all parties.”
Meanwhile, new boss Andre Villas-Boas has reportedly made a bid to sign Roma striker Marco Boriello on loan as he looks to boost his attack ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The 30-year-old Italy international is highly regarded by Villas-Boas and believe he possesses the physical qualities to operate in the loan striker role for Spurs next term.
He will have to bear off fierce competition for Boriello with Juventus, Genoa, Galatasaray and Werder Bremen also courting his signature.
