Taking place on the final day of the Glorious Goodwood racing festival, the Nassau Stakes is the highlight of Saturday’s racing, as Paddy Power announce free bets and plenty of support for the John Gosden trained Izzi Top, who looks a strong market leader.
Covering a distance of just over a mile, this group one flat horse race has been one by Midday in each of the last three years.
In fact, Midday is the most successful horse in the history of this race with three wins in succession, while this horse’s trainer Sir Henry Cecil has a record eight Nassau Stakes wins to his name.
Midday is not in the running for the 2012 race though, so there is a chance for a new winner. With a reasonably open field, it should be a cracking and competitive contest on Saturday afternoon.
Nassau Stakes : Paddy Power Free Bet Offer
Its the final day at Glorious Goodwood with the feature races the Nassau Stakes and Stewards Cup, Bet365 announce they will offer free bets worth £200 to all customers, to spend on any race or market! Also includes the Olympics. Claim here!
This race has a reputation of being high quality from start to finish and this is definitely the case this year. There have been some famous winners of this race in the past – including Pretty Polly and Ouija Board – and now is the time for there to be another.
Looking at the favourite for this year’s race, Izzi Top is the favourite at 2/1.The John Gosden trained horse hasn’t tasted defeat in four races and secured a memorable win in the Pretty Polly Stakes at Curragh last month.
As mentioned though, this should be an extremely close race and there is no doubt that The Fugue and Nahrain – both available at 7/2 – are major contenders. The Fugue in particular has had some massive wins this year – including at the Musidora Stakes – and could step up for the occasion.
Looking slightly further adrift in the betting, you have Was at 6/1, Maybe at 7/1 and Time Piece at 12/1. There are then four other competitors who are considered outsiders, but could still be in contention for this open race.
Getting underway on Saturday evening – the final day of the Glorious Goodwood Festival – this is definitely a race to look forward to.
