New Leicester signing Fernandes looking to earn permanent deal

Leicester’s ne loan signing, Gelson Fernandes, says he is looking to earn himself a permanent deal at the King Power Stadium, and has been told he will get his wish – if the Foxes gain promotion to the Premier League.

The Swiss midfielder arrived at Leicester last week, signing a season-long loan from Ligue 1 side St. Etienne, where he finds himself omitted from the club’s plans.

Fernandes, who worked under Sven Goran Eriksson at Manchester City, told the Leicester Mercury:  “I have played in four European leagues but I don’t think the Championship is a step down. The English league is the best in the world and I am not scared to say that, because I have played in the Premier League.”

Leicester have spent big this summer, but the 24 year-old is adamant that this doesn’t guarantee the club success, adding: “There are a lot of quality clubs in the Championship. We’re not going to win games just because we have some names.”

Fernandes will see his first bit of action back in England tomorrow, when Leicester clash against Coventry City.
