QPR new boy Joey Barton has hinted that his former club Newcastle United’s rivals Sunderland made an attempt to sign him before he completed his move to Loftus Road earlier this week.
Barton was reluctant to leave St James’ Park however boss Alan Pardew was looking to sell the midfielder due to problems the midfielder had caused, sparking a bitter end to a successful career he enjoyed at Newcastle.
Ironically the once capped England international’s last game for the Magpies was a 1-0 victory over their rivals Sunderland, and Barton has all but confirmed that the Black Cats were one of many sides chasing him.
“There were other clubs interested in me but it would not be prudent to name names as I am not going to air everybody’s dirty laundry,” Barton told The People.
“Some of them I could do and some I could not. If I had gone there I would probably have been lynched.”
