Alan Pardew has praised his squad’s captain Fabricio Coloccini for his leadership qualities he has shown since he was given the armband.
Following former club captain Kevin Nolan’s move to West Ham, Coloccini was made skipper and Pardew has revealed that he could not be happier with his decision to promote the Argentinian defender.
Newcastle have suffered from several setbacks off the field after losing three of their key players, however the Magpies’ boss is inspired by Coloccini’s determination to fight for Newcastle to turn around their fortunes on the pitch.
“You have to be very impressed with him as a person,” he said.
“He’s taken it almost as a mission in terms of coming to talk to me and understanding what I am trying to achieve, understanding what the club is trying to achieve.
“I have been very impressed with him, and not only his leadership, but his playing as well, which has been of the highest order so far.”
