Newcastle handed surprising loan fee for Manchester City defender

Manchester City have quoted Newcastle United a sum of £2m to take 31 year-old defender Wayne Bridge to St. James’ Park – on loan.

The full-back is a target for the Toon after Jose Enrique made his long-awaited move to Liverpool, and they now seek a replacement for their former star.

The Magpies would also be expected to pick up around half of Bridge’s £90,000-a-week wages, despite his low involvement in City’s starting line-up.

PSV Eindhoven left-back, Erik Pieters, is another potential signing for Newcastle, impressing largely for the Dutch club, as well as for the Holland international team.

Following a valuation by PSV, it’s reported that Pieters would cost the Tyneside outfit somewhere around £6m, the same sum they sold Enrique for.
