Newcastle latest to join social networking crackdown

Newcastle United manager has told his players that they could be sued for libel if they use social networking sites to criticise the club.

Joey Barton and Jose Enrique are the latest players to go against this new ruling, both of which instances look to have prompted transfers away from the club.

Pardew, speaking to BBC Sport, said: “The problem I have with Twitter is that people are twittering in an emotional state. Putting something out instantly can be very, very, damaging – not only to a football club but to any organisation.”

The Magpies manager is not alone in his views, with Manchester United holding a similar stance on Twitter, and Leeds United manager imposing a ban on his players from using the site altogether.
