Newcastle United forward Demba Ba believes that he is now settled at the Toon, and feels that they can now challenge for Uefa Champions League football next season.
Ba took his time finding form at St James’ Park, however is now showing impressive signs that caught manager Alan Pardew’s eye originally.
The former West Ham man has been in prolific form in front of goal recently, and scored in last Sunday’s 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham.
Pardew’s side are still unbeaten and have been this season’s surprise package, as they currently sit in fourth with 16 points from their opening eight games, and Ba is convinced that they can carry on their impressive start.
“It’s fair to say I’ve settled at the club,” he told The Sun. “But the proof is not just on me scoring – but how I feel every day in training and games. And since the Blackburn match, things have gone well and I’ve felt confident.
“When you must settle somewhere new, it takes time. When I joined Newcastle, at the beginning it was difficult.
“It was about getting into the team, knowing the players better and how they play. My team-mates also have to understand how I play and move. Now, slowly, it’s all coming together.
“It’s early and finishing top will be really tough. You look at the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea – those teams are only winning. They also have players with experience of lifting important trophies.
“We’re not looking at winning the Premier League. However if we can be close to those clubs then there’s a chance of achieving something good like reaching the Champions League.”
