Newcastle planning move for PSG striker

Newcastle are reportedly set to revive their attempts to bring PSG striker Melvut Erdinc to St James’ Park despite the Turkey international turning them down in the summer.

The Magpies were keen to bring the 24-year-old at the start of the season as they sought to fill the number nine shirt left vacant following Andy Carroll’s record breaking move to Liverpool 12-months ago. Despite making several approaches to the Ligue 1 side Erdinc wouldn’t budge opting to remain at the Parc de Princes and fight for his place.

However his chances have been limited so far this term making just nine appearances after falling behind former Toon target Kevin Gameiro, Peguy Luyindula and Guillaume Hoarau in the pecking order. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is now weighing up whether to try his luck with Erdinc again as he attempts to fill the void left by leading scorer Demba Ba who is on African Cup of Nations duty with Senegal.

Pardew saw a move for Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga fall through on medical grounds in December and a move for Erdinc is now being mooted although it’s thought Newcastle wouldn’t be willing to pay the £7 million PSG quoted them last year. Should any proposed deal failed to transpire it’s thought the Magpies boss could turn his attentions to Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes.
