It is understood that Queens Park Rangers have opened talks with Newcastle midfield Joey Barton, who was recently been placed on the clubs transfer list.
Barton was told that he could leave St James’ Park on a free transfer as manager Alan Pardew revealed the club was fed up with the midfielder’s outspoken remarks and comments about Newcastle United on social networking sites.
Speculation was then made regarding Barton’s future, with a number of clubs rumoured to be interested in him, however Barton has started in both of the Magpies’ opening games.
QPR have just received a high amount of funds following the takeover by Tony Fernandes at Loftus Road, which has led to the club being eager to strengthen before the transfer window closes and have identified Barton as one of their main targets.
Talks will now undergo between both QPR and Barton to discuss contract details and other aspects of the deal.
