Reports from the North of Spain have suggested that both Newcastle United and Chelsea are keeping tabs on 23 year old left back Roberto Canella.
The winner of the “Best Spanish U-21 left-back for 2008–09” currently plays for Sporting Gijón and it is claimed that both scouting parties of the Premiership clubs have been impressed with his work ethic over the last few months, and although his team lie in 11th in La Liga – and are not certain from the drop yet – his performances have been noteworthy.
Although Canella is yet to receive an international cap for Spain many believe this will soon arrive and claim that with the current World Champions, getting into such a team is very difficult for most, one only has to see that Cesc Fabregas is still mostly on the sidelines although he would make any Premiership team.
Chelsea look to be considering long term options for the ageing Ashley Cole whilst Newcastle still seem set to lose Jose Enrique in the summer and wish to fill the spot for a similar player but with years in front of him.
