Newcastle United are preparing to use their Andy Carroll money – £35m – on the recruitment of two Premiership players our sources have revealed.
The Magpies sold their main striker in the January transfer window in a record breaking deal for the 22 year old and it has been revealed that both Tottenham Hotspur’s Peter Crouch and Fulham’s Brede Hangeland are top of their transfer wish list.
Whilst one could argue that Crouch is perhaps a like-for-like for Andy Carroll, the England international will cost Newcastle no where near as much as what Liverpool paid for the former goal scorer and although Spur’s manager Harry Redknapp has admitted he wishes to keep Peter Crouch on board, he may well think again this summer if he truly wants his side to compete for a Premiership title.
Hangeland on the other hand is a player that has been linked with Arsenal in the past and the 29 year olds defensive qualities are of a high standard, in fact he has helped Fulham concede only 33 goals this season, fifth best in the Premiership.
Should Alan Pardew go ahead with bids for both of these Premiership talents then Newcastle will not only be boosted by and attacking and defensive presence for next season but from the Carrol money, they will certainly see a lot of change that could be used to purchase other players.
