Newcastle United are preparing a summer transfer raid on two Premiership clubs targeting both Aston Villa’s Steven Warnock and Manchester United’s Darron Gibson is a move that could cost a combined £8m.
Darron Gibson has not played frequently enough for Manchester United and although his first choice is that of Sunderland under former United defender Steve Bruce, Newcastle believe they will be in a position to offer him plenty of time on the pitch and will launch a £5m offer for the 23 year old.
Warnock may be a little trickier with the no-nonesense left-back having only joined Villa in 2009, however with a few changes at management level, it is believed that Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew may be able to persuade the 29 year old into joining his new look Magpie outfit for a transfer fee expected to around £3m.
Villa will not be keen to sell though, having already lost out on Ashley Young to Manchester United and the pending departure of Stewart Downing. Pardew may require a new left-back if Liverpool and possibly Arsenal are persistent in their quest to land Jose Enrique and it is believed that former Liverpool and Blackburn defender Warnock is their top choice as replacement.
