Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew insists the club have not lost hope in keeping current Spanish left-back Jose Enrique just yet and that the board are preparing a substantial offer to keep the 25 year old at St. James Park.
Reports have suggested a link with the player moving to Liverpool however Pardew neither confirms or denies any interest from other clubs.
“We have been waiting to see his representatives, they are due here in the early part of next week, we are going to make Jose a very, very good offer and we are hoping he is going to accept it.”
The Newcastle United manager continued.
“We are realistic about Jose, because the ball is in his court on that one, not in ours. He will be offered a fantastic contract here, he knows that, but still it is going to be down to his decision. I am still hopeful.”
With Liverpool unable to offer Enrique European football next season, the Spaniard may feel it wiser to stay where he is rather than risk joining a club who are currently undergoing a rebuilding process.
