Newcastle United’s Shola Ameobi claims safety almost a reality

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi believes the club are almost there where Premiership safety is concerned. The Magpies climbed to 9th after an emphatic win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, winning 4-1 and putting them on 39 points, a point less than the suggested Premiership safety net.

Whilst this season has shown that nothing is guaranteed until it actually happens one could be forgiven in thinking that Newcastle United are indeed safe however with the way this season has panned out you just never know.

Ameobi however believes the club are almost there.

“Relegation was mentioned, we don’t kid ourselves. Two years ago we didn’t take it as seriously, we thought we’d be fine, even when we slipped into it, even when we were losing games. Nobody is safe, we’re still not. Before the match, from 11th down, all the teams were in touching distance of the bottom three. It’s great we’ve come away from this game and we’re nearly there.”

Newcastle United next face an away trip to Premiership strugglers Aston Villa where a win will no doubt secure life in the Premiership for an extra season at least.
