Newcastle winger claims that game is bigger than Barton

Gabriel Obertan insists that Monday night’s clash against QPR is bigger than ex-Magpie Joey Barton, and the Toon are focusing solely on attaining three points.

The game will mark Barton’s QPR debut after his free transfer from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

Obertan is another fresh transfer, arriving at St. James’ Park from Old Trafford earlier this summer.

Speaking to the Daily Express, the French wideman stated: “We are not focusing just on Joey. There won’t be any violence as it is just a normal game.”

He added: “Barton was a massive player for us. I only got to know him for a couple of weeks but he was a big voice in the dressing room and on the pitch, so he will be a miss, but we have got plenty of quality players so losing him will not be a problem.”
