Manger quotes, player quotes, team news and prediction ahead of Norwich v Liverpool in the Premier League
What the players are saying:
Michael Turner, Norwich defender: “We’ve shown in the past we’ve played some of the top teams and done well against them, so there’s no reason why we can’t do that again. First and foremost, the manager has just told us we can believe in ourselves a little bit more. That we are a good team with good players, and we shouldn’t really be in this position. We had some good training sessions last week and he put across some good points that the lads bought into, and they took that into the game on Saturday. So I think with another week behind us, hopefully we can improve again and take it into the next game against Liverpool.”
Luis Suarez, Liverpool striker: “It’s normal for the supporters to get excited and be discussing our chances,” Suarez told the club’s official website. When I’m out shopping or out with my family I bump into fans who mention it to me. I’ve told them to stay calm and not to worry. We’ll be trying our best. For the players, it’s probably best if we don’t get involved in that kind of talk. Personally, I think that if I don’t watch TV, listen to the radio or read about us on the internet it’s better. I know what the situation is. Winning the title would be very special but we can’t think about that yet.”
What the managers are saying:
Neil Adams, Norwich manager: “We will feel we can look to beat Liverpool and we have this period to work on it. We need to pick up points in these four games but we believe we can do it”
Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool manager: “There’s no added pressure. There’s no less or more pressure than what we had then (at the start of the season). We’ll still look to win the game at the weekend and we’re still in touch with reality in terms of where we’re at. We’ve made great progress this season and our objective of trying to qualify for the Champions League was always going to be very difficult one because of the competitive nature of the league. But we’re still on course for that and if we get a win at the weekend that will rubber-stamp for us.”
Norwich v Liverpool Team News:
Norwich will be without former Everton defender Joseph Yobo for the clash with Sebastian Bassong set to return to the side. Elliot Bennett could come into contention after playing for the U21 side midweek following a knee injury.
Liverpool will be without the suspended Jordan Henderson following his sending off against Manchester City. The club are sweating on the fitness of Daniel Sturridge after the England striker strained his hamstring in the same game. Long-term absentee Jose Enrique remains out.
Form and prediction:
Norwich have lost four of their last five game and have lost three on the trot. Their most recent defeat came to third from bottom Fulham and means that the Canaries are just two points and one place above their relegation rival.
Liverpool are searching an 11th successive league win. The club laid down a real marker last weekend in their quest to win the title with a stunning 3-2 win over Manchester City. However all that will mean nothing if the Reds slip up on Sunday.
Expect another tense and fraught affair with Liverpool edging it.
