Taylor is perhaps just favoured with more confidence, but only slightly, as you can get a best priced 10/11 with such firms as Coral, William Hill and 888Sport, whilst sponsors Ladbrokes have the champion at 4/5 after originally going 10/11 but getting knocked over with bets meaning the odds had to be shortened by their traders.

Taylor is, arguably, is the best ever Darts player to have graced the oche. The “Power” has, unbelievably, won over 180 titles since turning pro, but not only does he win the minor trophies, he peaks when the major tournaments come around. His form in the build-up to this event this year has been patchy but a win in the Players Championship showed he was returning to somewhere near his best.
Raymond van Barneveld was supposed to give him real problems in the semi-final but performed miserably in a 6-4 defeat.
Before that match Taylor had hardly had to break sweat, and what will worry his followers is that even a underperforming Barney got to within two legs of victory. Usually going into major finals Taylor has come up against someone who raises their game, that hasn’t happened this year, and in our opinion, that gives Van Gerwen the edge when it comes to the odds.
The Dutchman has played incredible darts throughout the tournament and players who have played him have upped their game to compete with him. In the semi-finals Van Gerwen produced fireworks by hitting a nine-darter and only missed out on back-to-back nine-darters en route to overcoming James Wade, who also played magnificently under pressure.
Van Gerwen will be more prepared for a battle than Taylor and the Evens with Ladbrokes looks a very tasty bet indeed.
