Penalty decision against Manchester United will not cost them title

Sir Alex Ferguson knows Manchester United can still afford a few slip upsThe decision by referee Martin Atkinson may have changed the result between Chelsea and Manchester United on Tuesday evening but it is unlikely to change the location of where the Premiership trophy is heading.

Whilst a draw would have been a much fairer result, the loss does give Arsenal hope with it now being the North London club that has the game in hand despite a four point deficit. The Premiership title is however still in Manchester United’s hands and that is just the way Sir Alex Ferguson likes it.

With United having the players of experience that Arsenal do not have, it will tell eventually despite some big games for the Red Devilvs coming up and probably without their better defenders. Ferdinand is apparently still unavailable due to injury and Vidic’s late red card against Chelsea will see the Captain miss out against a resurging Liverpool team.

However, going through the fixture list it is not difficult to see that United will see this through to the end, correct they do have to play Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea once more but they would survive on just four points from those three games.

The truth of the matter is that United will note lose the race, but Arsenal will not win it when they have perhaps their best opportunity for years. It is there for the taking you just know that one or two away games when Arsenal are not on song and you shall see them stutter worse than our very own Oscar winner Colin Firth in The King’s Speech.

It’s not difficult to predict. Manchester United do not lose often, when they do, they normally bounce back and how many can see a smash and grab result at Anfield at the weekend? United’s away form is poor, very poor compared to their usually very high standards but as Sir Alex suggested, 84 points is what is required and that can still be very easily achieved with dropping a big six points over the next ten games.
