men come from Stoke of course and have looked extremely impressive in the tournament so far. Lewis beat Michael van Gerwen in the semi-final, whereas Taylor had too much quality for James Wade.
Taylor beat Wade 17-12 on Saturday night and averaged 107.61 – which is the highest of the tournament so far – so he is clearly in good form and will be the favourite to take the spoils in this one. At the moment, you can back him at 4/9 to win this one, so the bookies think that the world number one will be the one that comes out on top.
Although the victory in the semi-final looked a fairly comfortable one when looking at the stats paper, it was far from it and Taylor did have to dig deep to book his place in the final tonight. His start was electric though and something similar is what he will be after here.
The Power does have a better record on this stage and in this tournament than any other and that is sure to be a big advantage.
If at his best, we know there is no one that can cope with Taylor and should he average similar figures in the final, it is tough to see anything other than a win for the favourite.
He does know that Lewis is back in form though and at this stage of a tournament nothing can be taken for granted.
Adrian Lewis produced one of the performances of his life when beating Michael van Gerwen in the semi-final as he took the match 17-15.
The two-time World Champion was superb against the Dutchman and held his nerve in the final frame to secure the match as it looked to be heading for sudden death.
Lewis is proving a few critics wrong with his recent performances and if at his best here, he can cause a bit of an upset. You can back the Englishman winning his first World Matchplay title at 23/10 and some might see that as good value.
This is the first time he has made the final of this competition, but with the form he is in and the fact Lewis has a lot of big-match experience, he won’t be overwhelmed by the occasion at all. In fact, he is likely to thrive off it.
The man that gets the better start might just go onto win this one as the crowd will be singing the name of the player hitting the 180’s on a regular basis.
In truth, it is tough to see anything other than a classic here between two of the best players in the world. All the action gets underway from 7.15pm and it isn’t a match you want to be missing.
Bring on a superb night of darts.
