It appears as if Chelsea and Manchester City will lose out on the signature of wonderkid Neymar after the youngster signed a contract extension until 2014.
With a January deal unlikely, the sides were understood to be looking at a summer move for the 19 year-old but even that would appear to be off now.
Neymar has been chased by some of the world’s biggest clubs for the past year including Barcelona, Real Madrid and AC Milan.
Rumours arose in the summer that the teenager had signed a pre-contract agreement with one of the two aforementioned Spanish giants but those claims have been dashed by the contract extension.
The youngster commands one of the highest valuation’s for someone of his age and it’s been suggested that a figure as high as £55m will be needed to prise the star away from Santos.
Although recent news reports that the Brazilian side have tied Neymar down on a new deal, modern football has taught us that this doesn’t necessarily mean a move won’t happen in a nearby transfer window and none of the world’s elite will be dissuaded from pursuing their long-term target.
