Premier League elite eyeing up bright Fulham prospect

Despite remaining behind John Arne Riise in the Fulham pecking order, reports are suggesting that Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal could all be considering moves for Matthew Briggs.

The youngster has made 16 appearances for the Cottagers this season, most of which have been in Fulham’s Europa League run.

Rather than opt for the 20 year-old in the domestic league however, Martin Jol has stuck with summer signing John Arne Riise as his starting left-back, choosing to go for Premier League experience rather than potential.

Briggs’ evolution over the past year has also seen him earn his first England Under-21 caps and if the starlet isn’t handed more of a chance in a starting berth, he may be tempted by a move away.

Both United and Chelsea are looking for cover in the full-back positions as their starters begin to show a slight drop in performance; Patrice Evra and Ashley Cole respectively.

Arsenal on the other hand have a more immediate need for a new left-back, with both Keiran Gibbs and Andre Santos spending time out with injury.

Gibbs is set to return to action this month, however Arsene Wenger may choose to sign another England prospect as competition for the place.

As it stands, Fulham are putting teams off from bidding with their £9m valuation of the player, however is any side feels the need is great enough, Briggs could be getting his football from somewhere else in February.
