Premier League star misses international duty

Chelsea forward Didier Drogba has been ruled out of the Ivory Coast’s match against Rwanda on Saturday as a result of the concussion he suffered against Norwich on Saturday.

Drogba collided with Canaries keeper John Ruddy whilst going for a header and had to be stretchered off in the second half of the Blues’ 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The 33-year-old was knocked out immediately after the collision and required lengthy treatment on the field and could only be carried off on a stretcher once a brace had been placed and was supplied with a breathing aid. The striker was then sent to hospital where he underwent a scan over the weekend and was eventually given the all-clear from any serious injury.

Drogba was set to travel to Africa on Monday to link up with his international team-mates, however has dropped out of the squad and stayed in London where he will be monitored over the next few days by Chelsea’s medical staff.
