Premiership Transfer News of the week

Could Llorente be making his way to Old Trafford? It’s the end of the first week in March, and there’s plenty of transfer speculation for eager football fans to discuss over the weekend. There have been some sensational rumours and some humble gossip, but who has been included in this week’s Premiership Transfer News?

We start with the big guns and there has been no secrecy surrounding Alexis Sanchez’s reported links with several top flight teams, including Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool. Rumours state that the 22 year-old Chilean wonder-kid has been subject to a £27.5 million bid from either Liverpool of Chelsea. Liverpool seem to be the initial favourites to capture the forward, and reports in Italy suggest the bid may have already been accepted by Udinese.

Staying with the big clubs, Manchester United are reportedly scouting Spain and Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente. A contract clause means that United would have to shell out £34 million for the striker, but the pressure is on as Real Madrid also have shown interest in Llorente. Manchester United’s hunt for a goalkeeper to replace veteran Edwin Van der Sar, 40, also continues as Pepe Reina now looks the favourite to succeed him. United have been linked to several goalkeepers including Russia’s Igor Akinfeev, France’s Hugo Lloris, and Germany’s Manuel Neuer, but Sir Alex may prefer an experienced Premier League goalie over a new foreign signing.

Aston Villa’s Ashley Young is also the subject of Manchester United’s interest. Sir Alex is reportedly preparing a £15 million raid for the winger who has been impressive so far this season. The United boss failed to land the England star in January, prompting speculation that he will make an improved bid once the season is over. Villa have certainly been struggling this season, and Young could be open to a move that offers him European action next season.

Moving further down the table, the move of Jose Enrique to Liverpool has seemed slightly more plausible, as rumours state that Newcastle are planning a move for a replacement in Athletic Bilbao’s left back, Xabier Castillo. Other sources have indicated that former Liverpool left-back John Arne Riise is also in the frame. Riise, 30, who currently plays for Italian side AS Roma has been a successful left-back in the Premier League, and also has a famous UEFA Champions League winners medal having played in that famous 2005 final against AC Milan.

A round up of football transfer news this week has certainly revealed some interesting possibilities, and no doubt there will be some fans eagerly anticipating watching some of the new talent next season. With anything possible in the world of football, not to mention the usual last minute signing, next season looks to yield some of the best football action the Premiership has experienced so far!
