A week in football can go very quickly and this one has been no different, Arsenal’s Champion’s League campaign came to an end against Barcelona once more, Birmingham remain in an area they would rather not be in and Liverpool and Manchester City both lost the first legs of their Europa League ties.
The transfer rumours this week are interesting but again remains one of those things that we simply just have to put down to speculation until we see the actual player wearing the shirt of our beloved team. Here are the big names to have hit the transfer news this week.
Edinson Cavani
The Palermo striker is currently on loan at Napoli who have said they will not be selling their best player. Sadly for Napoli fans we have heard that one before and it seems Chelsea and Real Madrid are the most interested parties in thie 24 year old who knows where the net is. For Chelsea the player looks to be an option should Drogba be packing his bags at the end of the season.
Neven Subotić
The centre back has been awesome for Borussia Dortmund this season and helped the club become somewhat of a defensive machine conceeding only 14 Bundesliga goals in 25 matches. Any team that defends as well as that are immediately put under the spotlight and chuck in a 22 year old Serbian and you not only have Neven Subotić but also a prime target for the masses. The usual suspects are there but most notably that of Chelsea and of course Manchestery City. Note to self: Complete news story – Manchester City interested in everybody.
Steven Defour
The Belgian playmaker has had a quiet few months on the rumour circuit although there were a few snippets here and there this week that Manchester United and Liverpool both remain interested in the talent. Favourites to land Defour are United as Sir Alex cleverly wrote a letter to him after a leg break however with Liverpool’s new found enthusiasm in the transfer market who knows.
Ashley Young
The Englishman has been uncertain over his future over the last year and it seems highly likely that the Aston Villa winger will moving away from Villa Park at the end of the season. The most likely destination is rumoured to be Manchester United as Sir Alex, despite leading the Premiership race, looks to rebuild and add some more quality to the team.
Gael Clichy
The Arsenal left back it seems is becoming frustrated at the lack of trophies at the Emirates and it has been suggested he will not sign a new contract at this stage. Obviously a player with his talent, and it has to be said, left foot, attracts all sorts of attention and Liverpool and Juventus have been mentioned as being possible suitors for the player.
Joey Barton
With apparent contract talks currently stalled Joey Barton remains a player that numerous teams will be interested in, West Ham being one of them but apparently only if they lose Scott Parker to Tottenham during the summer. Whilst Barton’s past has been troubled he does seem to be on the mend. Birmingham City and Aston Villa are also thought to be eyeing the situation closely.
José María Callejón
David Moyes may not have the big money to make big name transfers but he certainly knows where to find quality for a reasonable price. Callejón may not be a name on everybody’s lips at the moment but should he be an Everton player next season then his work rate and set piece play will be one for the fantasy league too.
Michal Kadlec
The quality left back scored yet again in the Europa League last night and remains a target of Liverpool amongst possible others. Whilst his forward play is of a very high standard, his defence is not too bad and Anfield could be seeing the Czech international in a red shirt next season. Kadlec certainly has the makings of becoming a crowd favourite for the club.
That just about sums up the Premiership Transfer news of the week, some interesting names in there and some very interesting times ahead for the Premiership should any of them come off. We shall be back next Friday with some more of the latest transfer news.
