Another week has flown by and has shown what a crazy game football is, Tottenham were thrashed by Real Madrid, Chelsea couldn’t be given a penalty no matter how hard they tried, and Wayne Rooney astonishingly was given a two match ban for swearing, I wonder how many players will be putting their fingers on lips this weekend?
As always plenty of transfer news to talk about but this week in a slightly different format.
Arsenal Transfer News
Georginio Wijnaldum
This bit of transfer news came up very recently and the youngster has been described as the new “Thierry Henry”. Unfortunately, no one has ever really come through after being labelled “the next….”. At 20 years old he does have youth on his side and he currently plays for Feyenoord in the Dutch league. The youngster can play in midfield as well as on the wing and although the great Henry was a winger/forward comparisons are likely to be made despite their differences.
Ben Foster, Shay Given and Gianluigi Buffon
Take your pick where goalkeepers are concerned, last week it was Maarten Stekelenburg but the majority of Arsenal fans have mixed feelings on the current goalkeeping situation, whether to leave it be or invest in someone solid is a big question, either of the above names would fit in well but are likely to cost, Given would be a solid choice and probably the least expensive of the four.
Carl Jenkinson
The 20 year old is apparently on the verge of signing for Arsenal and the defender is also being monitored very closely by Manchester United. Arsenal were quick to move on this youngster and the Fin is definitely one for the future at the Emirates should Charlton agree to a compensation package somewhere between £1m-£2m.
Everton Transfer News
Blaise Matuidi
This talented midfielder could be joining Everton for as little as £5m during the summer transfer window. Many internet sites have the 23 year old Frenchman as being offered to numerous clubs who can match the valuation and should the St. Etienne midfielder fancy a stint in the Premiership then Everton could be his prefered choice.
Nigel Reo-Coker
The Aston Villa midfielder does not look to be having his contract extended meaning he could be available for free in the summer. For David Moyes this could be a period where he will want to build on the depth of his squad and getting some players for free is always a good idea when you are not given a transfer kitty. They will possibly be facing some competition from Tottenham for the 26 year old.
Liverpool Transfer News
Sylvan Marveaux
The French flyer has reportedly signed a deal for Liverpool meaning that is some width Liverpool fans can look forward to next season. The 24 year old has natural pace and it is believed this will be his last season in Rennes.
Wayne Bridge
The current West Ham loanee is enjoying his time in East London but is believed to be moving on next season as he cannot afford to take a pay cut to stay with the Hammers. Should he return to Manchester City then it is likely that he will spend time on the bench meaning a move to either Liverpool or Arsenal could be on the cards. Both are needing a new left back and this could turn out to be a very interesting transfer tussle in the summer.
Tottenham Transfer News
Diego Forlan
The Uruaguayan is on the wish list of Harry Redknapp but he does remain on the wrong side of 30 at 31 years of age. Whether the Tottenham board will really be willing to pay upwards of £8m for someone of that age will remain to be seen, no doubting his talent but we have seen him in the Premiership before with Manchester United and things did not go quite so well in the wetter climate of England.
Romelu Lukaku
The young Dutchman has started to see his form drop over the last few months and this is having an affect on his value with Anderlecht now ready to accept much less at around £17m. Rumours on the internet have also suggested that Tottenham are ahead of Chelsea in the transfer race for the youngsters signature.
Some interesting names on this list this week I am sure you will agree, whether any will materialise is something we can all talk about until we are blue in the face but in reality, you can only believe it when you see them in your clubs colours at a press conference. We shall be back next Friday with more of the weeks Premiership transfer news.
