QPR and Norwich City loan move for Manchester United youngster

Queens Park Rangers and Norwich City are ready to face each other on the transfer battlefield as they go head to head in the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley on loan for the first half of the season with the Old Trafford club to decide whether to extend until the end of the season.

Cleverley impressed during his time at Wigan although injuries did halt the 21 year olds progress on more than one occasion and whilst Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is keen to have him back on loan, it is believed that Wigan would like to buy more talent for their books rather than increase loan signings.

A lot also depends on the future of Manchester United’s Darron Gibson. There are reports of him moving to Sunderland FC this summer and should that move go through then Sir Alex Ferguson will want to keep Cleverley within range to include him in United games next season.

Many feel that Cleverley has the potential to be far better than Gibson has shown over the last two seasons, particularly with some clever performances with Wigan however should Ferguson plan on keeping Gibson for a further season then Cleverley will be given the option to be loaned out to one the Premiership new boys to gain more experience.

Despite decent financial backing, QPR do not want to over spend on players and find themselves relegated in their first attempt at the Premier League and would rather loan proven quality than purchase players that will have to be sold on should they not beat the drop.

Norwich City do not have the same sort of financial backing as QPR and although Paul Lambert has “bought clever” so far, he will be looking to add some loaned talent to his current squad.
