QPR close in on yet another defender

Queens Park Rangers have agreed a fee for Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand.

Boss Neil Warnock has already signed defenders Armand Traore and Luke Young this week and also sealed the signing of Joe Barton, however he is still eager to sign more before the transfer deadline.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has made 10 signings this summer, including defenders Wes Brown and John O’Shea whilst Michael Turner and Titus Bramble have returned to full fitness, resulting in Bruce allowing fringe players to leave the club and fund a bid for a new striker.

Ferdinand has only a year left on his contract at the Stadium of Light and there have been no talks over a new deal, leaving Sunderland ready to leave the former West Ham man to go this summer rather than for free next summer.

It is believed that the defender is on his way to Loftus Road for a medical where he will also discuss personal terms with the Premier League new boys.
