Racing Santander Barcelona Odds : Messi looks to follow up goalscoring record at El Sardinero

Although the La Liga title race may be just about beyond them, when Barcelona travel to Racing Santander this weekend, they will be looking to keep the pressure on Real Madrid, continuing their recent good form in the process.

Pep Guardiola’s men are ten points behind Madrid as things stand and with the league leaders showing no signs of slipping up, Barcelona may have to concede defeat. However, they still have a lot to play for so it is important they keep winning.

In their most recent fixture, Barcelona progressed to the last 8 of the Champions League with a massive 7-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. This made it five wins in succession across all competitions.

They will want this run to keep going too, aiming to win every single game between now and the end of the campaign. If they do this, they will win the Champions League, the Cope del Rey and make sure that Madrid don’t have it easy in the title race.

As for Racing Santander, they are currently in the middle of a relegation battle, so they are in desperate need of the points. Barcelona may be in town, but with three points between themselves and safety, they cannot afford to write off any fixture.

Looking at their recent form, it is easy to see why they are in the bottom three. They have gone seven games without victory in the league and even though four of these have been draws, this is not the type of run that is going to get them out of trouble.

When these two teams met earlier in the season, Barcelona ran out comfortable 3-0 winners and many will be expecting a similar outcome from 5pm on Sunday evening.

However, if Racing can raise their game – perhaps displaying the fighting spirits that saw them draw at Levante last month – it could be a more closely fought game than predicted.
