If there’s one man that epitomises what transfer deadline day is all about its Harry Redknapp.
He may have more taxing issues on his mind currently but that hasn’t stopped him from making a late swoop for Blackburn centre-half Christopher Samba.
The powerful Blackburn defender handed in a transfer request earlier this month because of a lack of ambition shown by the Rovers board but it was rejected by manager Steve Kean, who said the defender wouldn’t be sold under any circumstances.
However, Samba has hit back saying he will never play for the club again and usually in a situation like this the player comes out on top.
The Premier League big-hitters have a famous history regarding last minute moves for players on deadline day; Rafael van der Vaart perhaps being the most remembered one when he signed just before the window slammed shut for £9m in 2010.
There had been doubts this year whether Redknapp would be able to go down the same path again this year as he’s been spending most of him time in court on tax evasion charges but this hasn’t stopped the Spurs manager and his backroom staff plotting to bring in a player that could help their Premier League title push.
Time is ticking down in the transfer deadline clock, it officially it shuts at 12 tonight, but Redknapp allegedly tabled a bid £10m bid for Samba last night and is awaiting the next move from Blackburn.
Sources inside Ewood Park believe the bid will eventually be accepted and Samba will meet with Spurs officials, who are in Blackburn already, to discuss personal terms and sign the contract.
