Revived Chelsea star set to pen contract extension

Sources say that Jose Bosingwa could be ready to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge after the right-back has seen a surge of improvement under the management of compatriot, Andre Villas-Boas.

The Portuguese boss took over during the summer and placed Bosingwa back in the team’s starting line-up after the defender endured a tough period with the club, blighted by injury and an overall lack of playing time.

Whatever Villas-Boas did for his countryman, it seems to be working as the 29 year-old is now looking like he’s back to his best and looks to have earned a new contract as a result.

The defender is thought to be in the last year of his current deal and, if he failed to sign an extension, would be able to leave the Bridge on a free transfer in the summer.

The West London outfit would surely count such an occurrence as a major loss on the balance books after splashing out almost £17m on the player in 2008.

Bosingwa was being linked with a move away from Chelsea over the summer, with numerous European clubs interest in the Portuguese international’s signature, however under the management of Andre Villas-Boas, he may now be tempted by the offer of a longer stay with his current club.
