Roberto Mancini ready for contract talks

Mancini is keen to extend his contract at Manchester CityManchester City boss Roberto Mancini has confirmed that he is ready to open talks regarding a new contract at Eastlands in order to continue the club’s progress.

The former Inter Milan manager replaced Mark Hughes at City in December 2009, and his current deal expires at the end of next season.
Former Inter Milan coach Mancini replaced Mark Hughes as City manager in December 2009 and is currently under contract until the end of next season.

The Italian has been highly successful since making the move from the San Siro, as he guided City into the UEFA Champions League for the first time and a F.A Cup triumph last term. Meanwhile this season City are fully expected to be arch-rivals Manchester United’s closest contented for the Premier League title.
Mancini is enjoying his tenure at the Etihad Stadium and he believes the club’s Middle Eastern owners are happy with the job he is doing.

“I have this year and another year on my contract,” said Mancini. “I don’t want to leave.
“When the club decides on the contract and, if they are happy and I am happy to stay here, I don’t think we have any problems.” Mancini added.

“It’s important for every manager to work well and get good results to take the team to the top.

“We can improve every year and I’m happy to be here.
Mancini continued to say, “I have a good relationship with the owner and the chairman of the club, and I think it is important that both sides here are happy.

“We have improved a lot in the last 18 months. The squad has improved. The club is the same, but it’s important we are not stopping here.
“In England the manager has more power regarding the team and that is a good thing. I’m probably moving towards that.

“I’m not saying I can have the power of someone like (Sir Alex) Ferguson, but it is important that if one manager stays in one place for three, four, five or six years it’s easier.

“We have to continue to improve because to be a strong team we need three or four years.”
