Wayne Rooney fears that a rift with Sir Alex Ferguson could lead to Manchester United cashing in on him next summer. The breakdown of his relationship with Ferguson is believed to be the reason for Rooney being dropped to the bench for the win over Fulham at the weekend and the feeling is that the England strikers days are numbered at Old Trafford. Walcott set for Arsenal exit – Theo Walcott is set to become the next big name to leave Arsenal after talks over a contract extension broke down on Tuesday. The England winger is currently in the final year of his deal at the Emirates Stadium but turned down an offer worth around £4million a year. Walcott reportedly wants around £100,000-per-week to remain in North London but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is refusing to be held to ransom and could sell the 23-year-old to Manchester City or Liverpool for £12 m. Villa target Saints marksman – Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is lining up a surprise move for Southampton striker Rickie Lambert as he steps up his search for a new partner for Darren Bent. Lambert has been keen to sign a new forward for much of the summer and is plotting a late move for Lambert who has scored 89 goals in for the Saints in the past four years including their first Premier League goal in seven years in the opening day defeat to Manchester City. Potters eyeing N’Zonzi and Owen deals – Stoke City want to sign Blackburn midfielder Steven N’Zonzi and free agent Michael Owen before the transfer deadline. Potters boss Tony Pulis has turned his attentions to N’Zonzi after a loan deal for Tom Huddlestone broke down and will reportedly approach Rovers with an offer in the coming days.
