Blackburn boss Steve Kean is considering a move for much sought after Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes as he endeavours to keep his side in the Premier League.
The prolific striker has won himself legion of admirers after scoring 28 goals for the Terriers this season with Championship rivals Southampton and West Ham chasing his signature. The latter have already had a £4 million bid rejected by Huddersfield chief Lee Clark but will have to brace himself for an offer from Rovers after they entered the race to sign Rhodes.
Despite having an array of attacking options including 13-goal top scorer Yakubu to pick from Kean is still eager to boost his strike force as he plots a relegation escape plan in the campaign’s second half. Landing Rhodes would represent a major coup for the Premier League strugglers with the 21-year-old deemed more than ready to make the step up from League One.
However with Sam Allardyce still hoping to bring him to Upton Park before the transfer window closes the Rovers chief faces a battle to convince Rhodes his future lies at Ewood Park. He’ll have to convince owner’s Venkys to splash out up to £8 million on the Scotland international if they are to fend off interest from the Hammers who are determined to land him.
A record of 69 goals in 118 games for Huddersfield is sure to convince the Rovers money men who continue to place their faith in Kean to keep the club in the top flight. Aston Villa, Everton, Newcastle and Norwich have all scouted Rhodes in the last few months and could spark a bidding war as the transfer window draws to it’s nail biting conclusion.
