Roy Carroll is close to a move to League One side, Preston North End, on a free transfer.
The former Manchester United goalkeeper last turned out for Danish side, Odense, but since leaving has featured in two of Preston’s pre-season friendlies whilst on trial.
Carroll won a Premier League trophy and an FA Cup during his time at Manchester United and will bring valuable experience to Preston, having also played for Wigan, Derby and West Ham.
The 33 year-old had a successful spell in Denmark, helping Odense to the Europa League group stages last season, however is desperate for a return to English football and, according to his solicitor, is nearing a move to Deepdale:
“Having spent a week at the club, Roy was very impressed with the set up and is keen to show the club and its supporters that he is still a top class keeper.”
