Samoan star Pisi set for Franklin Gardens

Northampton have snapped up the Samoan star PisiSamoan centre George Pisi has been unveiled as the Northampton Saints latest spring signing. Pisi, 25 years old, will make the move to Franklin Gardens from Top 14 side Clermont after a short stay in France. Pisi will add another strong running centre to Northampton’s lineup with Jon Clarke already there; he’ll also have the chance to play with some of the England internationals he played against in the Autumn like Ben Foden and Chris Ashton.

Pisi had this to say on the move: “Playing against Chris Ashton and Ben Foden in the Autumn was awesome and it’ll be exciting to get the chance to play with them in England,” said the former Auckland Blues man.

“Hopefully playing at Clermont will be good for me. The more rugby I play the better I get, so when I come back for Taranaki, then hopefully the World Cup with Samoa, I’ll be able to hit the ground running when I get to Northampton,” he added.

Saints Coach Jim Mallinder commented ‘”George has improved a lot over the past year or so and we were impressed with what we’ve seen of him playing for Samoa in the autumn and Taranaki in the ITM Cup,”.

“He’s a strong runner who likes to play with the ball in hand.”

With it being a World Cup year, his start in Northampton will be delayed, but it is no doubt an excellent opportunity for a feisty young player to improve his game and play at the highest club level possible.
