Williams is the 1/6 favourite to win her first French Open title since 2002 though and when you consider the form she has been in recently, that isn’t exactly a surprise.

Williams also has a superb record when going up against her opponent as she has won the last 13 matches in which these two have met, so she certainly knows what it takes to beat the Russian.

The American has had an incredible career, but it seems as though she is in the best form of her life right now. She is fitter than she ever has been and seems determined to win every competition she goes into.

Williams should feel fairly refreshed coming into this one as well as she stormed into the final, beating world number five Sara Errani 6-0 6-1 in just 46 minutes.

It was the kind of performance that showed she means business and is ready to win the title this year.

If at her best, Serena Williams is sure to take this, but she will be aware this is going to be her toughest test yet and a big display is needed. Also, her serve has to be spot-on and if it is, there aren’t many in the women’s game that have the ability to break the world number one.

As for Sharapova, she is the 2012 French Open champion of course, so knows all about winning at Roland Garros and as she has made the final, we know she is in good form.

The Russian is sure to be concerned about her record against the women from USA, but that has to be put to the back of her mind as you don’t win or lose a game on history. Sharapova has to come out and feel as though she can win right from the off.

She has done so much in the game and it is easy to forget that she is just 26-years-old, so might still have her best years ahead of her. A second consecutive win at Roland Garros is being offered at 9/2 and that might prove to be value.

Sharapova went up against Victoria Azarenka in the previous round and needed all three sets to beat the world number three, but did have the quality in the end. She won the first set 6-1 and something similar will be just what the she is after.

As mentioned, these two are the best on the women’s circuit right now and it is fitting that they should meet in such a big match. All of the action gets underway from 2pm and you don’t want to miss this one.
