Ryan Shawcross is hoping that Stoke’s European campaign will earn him an England recall, and his first senior cap.
Fabio Capello has called the defender in the past, however only to be an unused substitute in a friendly against Egypt.
The Potters defender understands that if he is to earn his England return, he will have to show consistent form domestically, as well as in Stoke’s Europa League run.
Stoke City get their European season underway on Thursday, and face tough competition against Hadjuk Split.
The former Manchester United trainee stated:”I’ve been to European nights at Old Trafford so I know what it’s like, but this will be my first experience of playing in Europe. I can’t wait.”
Shawcross spoke of his intent of making it into a Three Lions shirt, adding: “It’s always tough to get into the England set-up because there are a lot of world-class players in my position but it’s something I’m striving for.”
