Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given could be out for about three months according to Eastland’s manager Roberto Mancini although it does beg the question was he ever in? yes is the answer but only four times since the start of the season and since Joe Hart has been number one choice.
With most of Shay Given’s time sat on the bench for Manchester City it might be a comfort to him knowing he will be able to put his feet up somewhere more comfortable than the dugout every weekend but Mancini did not hide his disappointment after informing the world of what is a shoulder injury, a repeat of the same issue suffered last year.
“He has the same injury that he had last year and I think that he needs an operation. I am disappointed for him because we have lost a good goalkeeper.”
Roberto Mancini added.
“Last year we had the problem in the last three games because we lost him to injury and I hope this year it is not the same.”
With the next three month absolutely vital to Manchester City’s Premiership and Europa league campaigns, they will be hoping that Joe Hart remains unscathed as should anything happen to him, the Sky Blues will be looking at a third choice keeper in the shape of Stuart Taylor or perhaps even Gunnar Nielsen.
Should the injury keep Given out of the game until the end of the season, as was predicted throughout this year and the majority of last, he will move on in the summer to find his fix of first team action.
