Sir Alex Ferguson calls Carrick the best midfielder in England

During a lengthy interview for BT Sports, the legendary Manchester United manager called Michael Carrick as the best English midfielder in the game today.

Ferguson, who spent more than 25 years as the manager of the Red Devils, has been following United ever since he retired back in 2013 and after a turbulent last season, is glad to see the team turn things around under the guidance of Louis van Gaal.

While talking to BT Sport, Fergie stated that the return of Michael Carrick to the starting XI has turned things around and stated that the player he signed from Tottenham back in 2006, is currently the best English midfielder in the game.

Indeed, Carrick’s return to the starting XI has made things easier for the squad with the England international putting in consistent displays and restoring order into a rather hapless midfield that suffered a lot during the beginning of the current campaign.

“I think Michael’s the best central midfielder in English football,” he said.

While talking about Robin van Persie’s return to form, Fergie stated that the Dutchman suffered at the start of the season only because the World Cup took a bit out of him and predicted the striker to set the ground running in the second half of the campaign.
